Pets! Mascotas!

This week, the children continued to pretend to be groomers. They are doing a great job to find a way to take care of the animals and engaged in cooperative play. We had fun painting with feathers and we used scissors to cut a fish. The children used the materials at science table to sort by colors, categories and to create patterns.  We used dog bones to measure our height and the children count 1:1 to correspondence. The children are using different props to retell “Mouse paint” by Ellen Stoll Walsh. Also, our class voted and decided that our classroom pet will be a Betta fish.
Esta semana los niños continuaron pretender que cuidan a las mascotas. Esta hacienda un gran trabajo en encontrar maneras de cuidar a los animales y trabajar y jugar cooperativamente. Fue divertido pintar con plumas y usamos las tijeras para contar un pez. Los niños usaron los materiales en la área de ciencia para clasificar por colores, categorías y crear patrones. Usamos huesos para perros para medir nuestra estatura y los niños contaron 1: correspondencia. Los niños esta usando diferentes  accesorios para volver a contar el libro “Pinta Ratones” de la autora Ellen Stoll Walsh. También, nuestra clase voto y decidió que nuestra mascota será un Beta Pez.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. At literacy, the children sorted letters by color, matched letters of their first and last names, and worked with letter puzzles and robot letters. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
