Transportation! Transportación!

This week, we continue learning about land transportation. The children pretended to fix a car in the area of dramatic play. At art center, the children used different shapes to create representation of cars and trains and use Q-tips to paint a train. At the sensory table, the children used toothbrushes to wash dirty trucks. The children learned about simple machines. The children learned about ramps and how can we find it around us. The children created a ramp with gutters and blocks at the block centers. They children experimented with different angles. Also, at science center, the children used ramp, cars and measuring tape. The children use it to measure the distance. The children continue practicing their fine motor by writing words and using scissors. It was a fun week!

Esta semana, continuamos aprendiendo acerca la transportación en la tierra. Los niños pretendieron arreglar un carro en la área de dramáticos. En la mesa de arte, los niños usaron diferentes figuras geométrica para representar un carro y trenes y usaron q-tips para pintar un tren. En la mesa sensorial, los niños usaron cepillo de dientes para lavar unos camiones sucios. Los niños aprendieron acerca de simple maquinas. Los niños aprendieron acerca las rampas y como las podemos conseguirlas alrededor acerca de nosotros. Los niños crearon rampas con canales de plástico y bloques en el área de bloques. Los niños experimentaron con diferentes ángulos. También, en la mesa de ciencia, los niños usaron rampas, carros y cintas métricas. Los niños usaron para medir la distancia. Los niños continúan practicando su motricidad fina, escribiendo nuevas palabras y usando las tijeras. Fue una semana divertida!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
