Winter Celebration! Celebramos el invierno!

This week we celebrated our learning of winter. The children practice their fine motor skills by cutting mittens and hats. We read the book, The Hat by Jan Brett. We compared the hat and the mitten. Jan Brett is becoming one of our favorite authors. Also, the children painted with frozen paint. The children created beautiful art. At the science table, the children measure their height with mittens and we learned about how snowflakes are symmetry. The children use geometric shapes to create symmetry snowflakes. The children voted and they decided that our next study would be transportation. Thanks to the parents for attending our partnership day. It was fun creating our favorite parfaits.

Esta semana celebramos nuestro aprendizaje acerca del invierno. Los niños practicaron sus motricidad fina usando las tijeras para cortar manoplas y sombreros. Leímos el libro, The hat (el sombreo) de Jan Brett. Lo comparamos los libro de The hat and The mittens. Jan brett se ha convertido uno de nuestro autores favoritos. También, los niños pintaron con pintura congelada. Los niños crearon hermosos pinturas. En la mesa de ciencia, los niños midieron su estatura con manoplas y aprendimos como los copos de nieve son simétricos. Los niños usaron figuras geométricas para crear copos de nieve simétricos. Los niños votaron y ellos decidieron que nuestro próximo estudio va hacer en transportación. Gracias a los padres por compartir nuestro día de colaboración con los maestros. Fue divertidos crear  nuestro favorita fruta con yogurt.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. At literacy, the children sorted letters by color, matched letters of their first and last names, and worked with letter puzzles and robot letters. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
