Human Body! El cuerpo humano!

This week we are learning about the human body. We continued learning about the importance of taking care our body. This week the children learned about body parts and how to identify them. We transformed our dramatic play into a doctor office. The children pretended to be a doctor. The children pretended to give shots, bandages and take the temperature of their patients. The children label body parts on baby dolls and their peer’s body. The children drew a picture of a person and used lines and curves to create a mat man. We added a child size skeleton to our science table and blocks center. The children learned about different important bones in our body and they used blocks to create skeleton.

Esta semana estamos aprendiendo sobre el cuerpo humano. Continuamos aprendiendo sobre la importancia de cuidar nuestro cuerpo. Esta semana los niños aprendieron sobre las partes del cuerpo y cómo identificarlas. Transformamos nuestro juego dramático en un consultorio médico. Los niños pretendían ser médicos. Los niños pretendían aplicarles inyecciones, vendajes y tomar la temperatura de sus pacientes. Los niños etiquetan partes del cuerpo en muñecas y el cuerpo de sus compañeros. Los niños hicieron un dibujo de una persona y usaron líneas y curvas para crear un hombre de estera. Agregamos un esqueleto de tamaño infantil a nuestra mesa de ciencias y al centro de bloques. Los niños aprendieron sobre diferentes huesos importantes en nuestro cuerpo y usaron bloques para crear el esqueleto.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
