Water Transportation! Transporte en el Agua!

This week was everything about water transportation. The children pretended to row a boat and go fishing. The children experimented with different materials. We learned some objects float and other sink. Objects will float if it less dense than the liquid it places in and an object will sink if it is denser than the liquid it is placed in. The children drew pictures of submarines and made a boat with construction paper. The children played with plastic boats at the sensory table. They experimented with different weighs. Also, this week we celebrated Dr. Seuss birthday. We read several books and we decided to make green eggs and ham. The children love it! It was delicious!  We want to thank the parents that attended the parent-teacher conference and plan new goals for the rest of the year. 

Esta semana fue todo sobre el transporte en el agua. Los niños pretendían remar en un bote e ir a pescar. Los niños experimentaron con diferentes materiales. Aprendimos algunos objetos flotando y otros se hunden. Los objetos flotarán si es menos denso que el líquido que contiene y un objeto se hunde  es más denso que el líquido en el que se encuentra. Los niños dibujaron submarinos e hicieron un bote con papel de construcción. Los niños jugaban con botes de plástico en la mesa sensorial. Ellos experimentaron con diferentes pesos. Además, esta semana celebramos el cumpleaños del Dr. Seuss. Leímos varios libros y decidimos hacer huevos verdes y jamón. ¡A los niños les encanta! ¡Estaba delicioso! Queremos agradecer a los padres que asistieron a la conferencia de padres y maestros y planificar nuevas metas para el resto del año.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
