Apples/ Manzanas

This week was our first together in the classroom. It was great to see children recognizing faces and making new friendship. We start our investigation into Apples. The children sorted apples by colors and size. The children painted their representation of apples, stamp with apples and drew pictures of their favorite apples. The children pretended to pick apples and bake delicious apples pies. The children explored the variety of blocks and created structures. Playing outside is one of our favorite activities. The children are taking turns on the swing and played with plastic balls. We had some fun  this week! 

Esta semana fue la primera vez que estuvimos juntos en el salón de clases. Fue genial ver a los niños reconocer caras y hacer nuevas amistades. Comenzamos nuestra investigación sobre las manzanas. Los niños clasificaron las manzanas por colores y tamaños. Los niños pintaron su representación de manzanas, estamparon con manzanas y dibujaron sus manzanas favoritas. Los niños fingieron recoger manzanas y hornear deliciosas tartas de manzanas. Los niños exploraron la variedad de bloques y crearon estructuras. Jugar al aire libre es una de nuestras actividades favoritas. Los niños se turnan en el columpio y juegan con pelotas de plástico. ¡Nos divertimos esta semana!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
