Apples/ Manzanas

This week we continue learning about apples. At science table the children taste yellow, green and red apples. The class favorite is red apples. Also, the children explored the inside of an apple, estimated how many seeds an apple has, and we guess how much an apple weigh. The children are learning about patterns. The children created patterns with different materials. At blocks the children are building different structures and drawing their buildings. The children pretended to bake apples pies. This week we learned about sequences and following instructions. We begin working on our fine motor journal. We are working on strengthening our hand eye coordination and pencil grasp.

Esta semana seguimos aprendiendo sobre las manzanas. En la mesa de ciencias los niños probaron manzanas amarillas, verdes y rojas. El favorito de la clase son las manzanas rojas. Además, los niños exploraron el interior de una manzana, calcularon cuántas semillas tiene una manzana y adivinamos cuánto pesa una manzana. Los niños están aprendiendo sobre patrones. Los niños crearon patrones con diferentes materiales. En los bloques, los niños están construyendo diferentes estructuras y dibujando sus edificios. Los niños pretendieron hornear pasteles de manzana. Esta semana aprendimos sobre secuencias y seguimiento de instrucciones. Comenzamos a trabajar en nuestro diario de motricidad fina. Estamos trabajando para fortalecer la coordinación mano-ojo y el agarre del lápiz.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. At the table game, the children played with small colored blocks, puzzles, and Mr. Potato Head. At literacy, the children sorted letters by color, matched letters of their first and last names, and worked with letter puzzles and robot letters. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
