This week we begin our study on buildings. We created a chart with what we know and what we want to find out. We transformed dramatic play into a construction site. The children explored the different materials and dressed up as construction workers. At blocks area, the children continued building amazing structures. We added some architect books to encourage children to create new structures and talk about foundations and symmetry. At manipulatives, the children use small blocks to build and we introduce rulers to measure the height of their structure. Also, the children used markers to represent their structure. It was great to see their perspective of their structure and draw shapes. At art center, the children used markers, paint and wood sticks to represent their house and building. At sensory table, the children played with sand and blocks. They learned about balance and they created awesome structures.

 

We want to thank all the parents for a wonderful conference! We were so excited to share each child progress and plan for new goals according to your child needs! Remember we are a team!

 

Esta semana comenzamos nuestro estudio sobre edificios. Creamos un grafico con lo que sabemos y lo que queremos averiguar. Transformamos el juego dramático en un sitio de construcción. Los niños exploraron los diferentes materiales y se disfrazaron de trabajadores de la construcción. En el área de bloques, los niños continuaron construyendo estructuras asombrosas. Agregamos algunos libros de arquitecto para alentar a los niños a crear nuevas estructuras y hablar sobre cimientos y simetría. En el área de manipulativos, los niños usan bloques pequeños para construir e introducimos reglas para medir la altura de su estructura. Además, los niños usaron marcadores para representar su estructura. Fue genial ver su perspectiva de su estructura y dibujar formas. En el centro de arte, los niños usaron marcadores, pintura y palos de madera para representar su casa y edificio. En la mesa sensorial, los niños jugaron con arena y bloques. Aprendieron sobre el equilibrio y crearon estructuras asombrosas.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
