This week was short, but full of learning and fun! We learned about who build building. We talked about how people work together to build a building. We talked about architects, carpenters, electricians, plumbers, painters, etc. At dramatic play, the children continue to dress up like construction workers or painters and used a variety of materials to build. At sensory table, the children explored PCV pipes, measuring cups and funnels. They experimented with sand and water. At science, we built with cups. We talked about balance. The children built amazing towers and work together. At blocks, they built towers taller than them. At math, the children explored architectural books and we encourage them to use Legos to create their own buildings. At book center, the children used prompts to retell one of our favorite books “The Three Little Pigs”. At art table, we used large blocks to paint. It was great to see how the children used the Legos to paint and create patterns on their paper. At literacy, we continued working on writing and coloring to strengthen our fine motors. The children are having a great time exploring and learning about buildings. We have a fabulous group of architects!

 

¡Esta semana fue corta, pero llena de aprendizaje y diversión! Aprendimos sobre quién construye edificios. Hablamos sobre cómo las personas trabajan juntas para construir un edificio. Hablamos de arquitecto, carpintero, electricista, plomero, pintor, etc. En el juego dramático, los niños continúan disfrazados de albañil o pintor y usaron una variedad de materiales para construir. En la mesa sensorial, los niños exploran gaiteros PCV, tazas medidoras y embudos. El experimento con arena y agua. En ciencia, construimos con tazas. Hablamos de equilibrio. Los niños construyeron una torre increíble y trabajaron juntos. En los bloques, construyen torres más altas que ellos. En matemáticas, los niños exploran el libro de arquitectura y los alentamos a usar Legos para crear su propio edificio. En el centro de libros, los niños usan indicaciones para volver a contar uno de nuestros libros favoritos “Los tres cerditos”. En la mesa de arte, usamos bloques grandes para pintar. Fue genial ver cómo los niños usan los Legos para pintar y crear patrones en su papel. En alfabetización, continuamos trabajando en la escritura y coloreado para fortalecer nuestras motricidad fina. Los niños se lo están pasando en grande explorando y aprendiendo sobre la construcción. ¡Tenemos un fabuloso grupo de arquitectos!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
