This week, we discussed what buildings are made of? What makes them strong? At science, we explored materials as brick and stones. We try to blow the bricks and stones, but it was really hard. We discussed the importance of strong materials to build buildings and houses. At housekeeping, the children continued experimenting with different materials. The children created tall buildings and bridges. At sensory table, the children built a tower with blocks. It was really challenging, but they did it! We talked about the importance of a strong foundation and how this foundation keeps the building safe. At art table, the children made their house by using markers and watercolors and they use geometric shapes to make skyscrapers and use model playdough and wood sticks to create buildings. Also, we are working on recognizing letters and their sounds and counting objects and simple math. 

 

We want to thank the parents for helping us to collect boxes for our final project! We are sure the children will create amazing buildings!

 

Esta semana, discutimos de qué están hechos los edificios. ¿Qué los hace fuertes? En ciencia, exploramos materiales como ladrillos y piedras. Intentamos soplar los ladrillos y las piedras, pero fue muy difícil. Hablamos de la importancia de los materiales fuertes para construir edificios y casas. En la área de dramáticos, los niños continuaron experimentando con diferentes materiales. Los niños crearon puentes y edificios altos. En la mesa sensorial, los niños construyeron una torre con bloques. Fue realmente un desafío, ¡pero lo lograron! Hablamos sobre la importancia de una base sólida y cómo esta base mantiene el edificio seguro. En la mesa de arte, los niños hicieron su casa usando marcadores y acuarelas y usan formas geométricas para hacer rascacielos y usan plastilina y palos de madera para crear edificios. Además, estamos trabajando en el reconocimiento de letras y sus sonidos y en el conteo de objetos y matemáticas simples.

 

¡Queremos agradecer a los padres por ayudarnos a recolectar cajas para nuestro proyecto final! ¡Estamos seguros de que los niños crearán edificios increíbles!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
