Pumpkins/Calabazas

This week, we learned about pumpkins! At the sensory table, we practiced our fine motor by hammering golf tees into a pumpkin and using the scissors. At the science table, we used snap cubes to measure the height of different pumpkins. The children continued creating and following different patterns. We explored the inside of a pumpkin, we used words to describe the inside and outside of a pumpkin. At art center, we explored 3D art by building different structures with candy pumpkins and toothpicks and decorated pumpkins cut out. We ended the week, by practicing trick or treat. The children have fun collecting candy and showing their costumes!

 

The children decided that our next topic of study would be BUILDINGS!

 

¡Esta semana, aprendimos sobre las calabazas! En la mesa sensorial, practicamos nuestra motricidad fina martillando diente de golf en una calabaza y usando las tijeras. En la mesa de ciencias, usamos cubos rápidos para medir la altura de diferentes calabazas. Los niños continuaron creando y siguiendo diferentes patrones. Exploramos el interior de una calabaza, usamos palabras para describir el interior y el exterior de una calabaza. En el centro de arte, exploramos el arte en 3D mediante la construcción de diferentes estructuras con calabazas dulces, palillos de dientes y calabazas decoradas recortadas. Terminamos la semana practicando truco o trato. ¡Los niños se divierten recogiendo caramelos y mostrando sus disfraces!

 

Los niños decidieron que nuestro próximo tema de estudio será ¡EDIFICIOS!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
