It was a short week, but it was busy! We continue to learn about air transportation. This week we discussed the part of the airplane and we learned that the engine and air help airplanes to stay in the air. At science table we played with a parachute., When a parachute falls down, air resists its movement causing the parachute to fall slowly. We added blocks to our parachute, and we notice that the fall was more quickly. We learned that the downward force that is pulling the parachute down is called gravity. Also, we played with paper airplanes. The children made it fly and we used measuring tape to measure the distance that their airplane flew. We had so much fun at science. At science the children continued pretending to go through security and take turns to be pilots. At art center, the children drew pictures, played with playdough and stamp letters and practice their fine motor skills by using scissors. At math, we use cubes to measure airplanes, played with potato head and sorted rocks. At literacy, the children kept learning the letters and the sounds. At the sensory, the children played with water beads and different types of airplanes. Also, we have so much fun playing with paper airplanes outside. The children flew their airplane from the structure and made race! It was fun!


Fue una semana corta, ¡pero estuvo ocupada! Seguimos aprendiendo sobre el transporte aéreo. Esta semana discutimos la parte del avión y aprendimos que el motor y el aire ayudan a los aviones a mantenerse en el aire. En la mesa de ciencias jugamos con un paracaídas. Cuando un paracaídas cae, el aire resiste su movimiento y hace que el paracaídas caiga lentamente. Agregamos bloques a nuestro paracaídas y notamos que la caída fue más rápida. Aprendimos que la fuerza hacia abajo que tira del paracaídas hacia abajo se llama gravedad. Además, jugamos con aviones de papel. Los niños lo hicieron volar y usamos cinta métrica para medir la distancia que voló su avión. Nos divertimos mucho en la ciencia. En ciencia los niños continuaron fingiendo pasar por seguridad y turnándose para ser pilotos. En el centro de arte, los niños hicieron dibujos, jugaron con plastilina y estamparon letras y practicaron sus habilidades motoras finas usando tijeras. En matemáticas, usamos cubos para medir aviones, jugamos con cabeza de patata y clasificamos rocas. En alfabetización, los niños siguieron aprendiendo las letras y los sonidos. En la sensorial, los niños jugaron con perlas de agua y diferentes tipos de aviones. Además, nos divertimos mucho jugando con aviones de papel afuera. ¡Los niños volaron su avión desde la estructura e hicieron carrera! ¡Fue divertido!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
