This week, we learned about the airport and airplanes. We transformed our dramatic play into an airport. The children pretended to go through security, put their baggage on the airplane and flew an airplane. The children wrote their names in their pretend passport and stamped it. At art table, the children used markers to make their airplane presentation, used geometric shapes to make helicopters and they used wood sticks and tape to make airplanes. At sensory table, the children played with water beads and a variety of plastic airplanes. At science, we added a globe and iPad. The children can explore the world by scanning a start on the globe. They can learn about animals, cultures, architecture and traditional food. At blocks, the children built a runway and airports. At math the children sort by size, played with magnet numbers and number floor puzzles. At literacy, the children are learning about alliteration (word with the same sound or letters). The children sorted pictures by sound. We celebrated Valentine’s Day. It was a sweet day. We want to thank the parents that donated a delicious snack and gave us presents. We felt the love and appreciation. Thanks!

 

Esta semana aprendimos sobre el aeropuerto y los aviones. Transformamos nuestra obra de teatro en un aeropuerto. Los niños fingieron pasar por seguridad, pusieron su equipaje en el avión y volaron un avión. Los niños escribieron sus nombres en su pasaporte ficticio y lo sellaron. En la mesa de arte, los niños usaron marcadores para hacer su presentación de aviones, usaron formas geométricas para hacer helicópteros y usaron palos de madera y cinta adhesiva para hacer aviones. En la mesa sensorial, los niños jugaron con perlas de agua y una variedad de aviones de plástico. En ciencias, agregamos un globo terráqueo y un iPad. Los niños pueden explorar el mundo escaneando un comienzo en el globo. Pueden aprender sobre animales, culturas, arquitectura y comida tradicional. En bloques, los niños construyeron una pista y aeropuertos. En matemáticas, los niños clasificaron por tamaño, jugaron con números magnéticos y rompecabezas de números de piso. En alfabetización, los niños están aprendiendo sobre aliteración (palabra con el mismo sonido o letras). Los niños clasificaron las imágenes por sonido. Celebramos el día de los enamorados. Fue un día dulce. Queremos agradecer a los padres que donaron una deliciosa merienda y nos dieron regalos. Sentimos el amor y el aprecio. ¡Gracias!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
