This week, we continued learning about buildings. We have been reading different versions of The Three Little Pigs. We compared our two favorite versions. At sensory table we continued building on top of the water. We added some heavy blocks and the children notice that their structure sink. At art table, the children decorated a house and used watercolors to paint it and used small blocks to paint. Also, the children used markers and crayon to decorate a sock to celebrate the down syndrome day. At math table, the children used Legos to create amazing structures and played with Mental Blox that help children practice following verbal instructions, asking questions and build critical thinking skills. At blocks, the children kept creating amazing structures. At dramatic play, the children created amazing blueprints. At literacy, the children continued working on letters, sounds and CVC words. At science table, the children continued learning about coding. The children worked as a couple to create a code and then followed the code. We created a code game around the story “The Three-Little Pigs.” The wolf had to find his way to the pig’s house. Also, we used a mouse robot. The children created a code to help the mouse to get the cheese. It was amazing to see the children working together and trying different codes. It was great solving problem activity! 


Esta semana, continuamos aprendiendo sobre edificios. Hemos estado leyendo diferentes versiones de Los tres cerditos. Comparamos nuestras dos versiones favoritas. En la mesa sensorial seguimos construyendo sobre el agua. Agregamos algunos bloques pesados y los niños notan que su estructura se hunde. En la mesa de arte, los niños decoraron una casa y usaron acuarelas para pintarla y usaron pequeños bloques para pintar. Además, los niños usaron marcadores y crayones para decorar un calcetín para celebrar el día del síndrome de down. En la mesa de matemáticas, los niños usaron Legos para crear estructuras asombrosas y jugaron con Mental Blox que ayuda a los niños a practicar el seguimiento de instrucciones verbales, hacer preguntas y desarrollar habilidades de pensamiento crítico. En los bloques, los niños siguieron creando estructuras asombrosas. En el juego dramático, los niños crearon increíbles planos. En alfabetización, los niños continuaron trabajando en letras, sonidos y palabras CVC. En la mesa de ciencias, los niños continuaron aprendiendo sobre codificación. Los niños trabajaron en pareja para crear un código y luego siguieron el código. Creamos un juego de código en torno a la historia "Los tres cerditos". El lobo tuvo que encontrar el camino a la casa del cerdo. Además, utilizamos un ratón robot. Los niños crearon un código para ayudar al ratón a conseguir el queso. Fue asombroso ver a los niños trabajando juntos y probando diferentes códigos. ¡Fue una gran actividad de resolución de problemas!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
