This week we continued our study on buildings. We learned about the people that work together to build buildings and some of the tools they use. At art table the children made a skyscraper and used paper to make a house. At sensory table, the children played with water and foam blocks. They learned that it is very hard to build on water, but they found the way to build towers. At dramatic play, the children pretended to use different tools and they used a variety of materials to build.  At science table the children used marshmallows and toothpicks to build a house to protect a pig. We tested the sturdiness of their house by blowing it. The children created an amazing house! We added wooden logs so the children could experiment with them and build different houses. It was challenging but the children made great structures. Also, we learned about coding unplugged activity. They took turns and used cards to create a code and follow the code. At manipulatives, we added the book “Changes, Changes” and the children used colored blocks to build. At literacy, the children are learning about CVC words and rhyming words. At blocks the children continued experimenting with blocks and creating amazing structures. It was a busy week!


Esta semana continuamos nuestro estudio sobre edificios. Aprendimos sobre las personas que trabajan juntas para construir edificios y algunas de las herramientas que usan. En la mesa de arte los niños hicieron un rascacielos y usaron papel para hacer una casa. En la mesa sensorial, los niños jugaron con agua y bloques de espuma. Aprendieron que es muy difícil construir sobre el agua, pero encontraron la manera de construir torres. En el juego dramático, los niños simularon usar diferentes herramientas y usaron una variedad de materiales para construir. En la mesa de ciencias, los niños usaron malvaviscos y palillos de dientes para construir una casa para proteger a un cerdo. Probamos la solidez de su casa soplándola. ¡Los niños crearon una casa increíble! Añadimos troncos de madera para que los niños pudieran experimentar con ellos y construir diferentes casas. Fue un reto, pero los niños hicieron grandes estructuras. Además, aprendimos sobre la codificación de la actividad desconectada. Se turnaron y usaron tarjetas para crear un código y seguir el código. En los manipulativos, añadimos el libro “Cambios, Cambios” y los niños usaron bloques de colores para construir. En alfabetización, los niños están aprendiendo sobre palabras CVC y palabras que riman. En los bloques, los niños continuaron experimentando con bloques y creando estructuras asombrosas. ¡Fue una semana ocupada!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
