Flowers/ Las Flores

This week we continued learning about flowers. We learned how the plants/ flowers drink water. Plants drink water through a process called osmosis. Osmosis is the movement of a liquid into a living thing, creating a balance of that liquid. For example, if a plant needs water it will use osmosis to pull water through the roots until it has enough water to photosynthesize or make food. We made carnations and colored water to teach and observe how the flowers drink water and how change color. At dramatic center, the children used a gardening pad and pretended to plant flower/plants and continued playing with flowers. At art table, the children painted flowers and used tissue paper to make colorful flowers. At manipulative, the children sorted flowers by size, used snap cubes to measure flowers and wrote numbers and used pattern blocks to follow patterns and make flowers. At the sensory table, the children played with sponges and watering cans. At the literacy table, the children are spelling CVC words and recognizing rhyming words. It was a fun week! 


Esta semana seguimos aprendiendo sobre las flores. Aprendimos cómo las plantas/flores beben agua. Las plantas beben agua a través de un proceso llamado ósmosis. La ósmosis es el movimiento de un líquido hacia un ser vivo, creando un equilibrio de ese líquido. Por ejemplo, si una planta necesita agua, usará la ósmosis para extraer agua a través de las raíces hasta que tenga suficiente agua para realizar la fotosíntesis o producir alimento. Hicimos claveles y agua de colores para enseñar y observar cómo las flores beben agua y cómo cambian de color. En el centro dramático, los niños usaron una almohadilla de jardinería y simularon plantar flores/plantas y continuaron jugando con flores. En la mesa de arte, los niños pintaron flores y usaron papel de seda para hacer flores de colores. En el manipulativo, los niños clasificaron las flores por tamaño, usaron cubos para medir flores y escribieron números y usaron bloques de patrones para seguir patrones y hacer flores. En la mesa sensorial, los niños jugaban con esponjas y regaderas. En la mesa de alfabetización, los niños escriben palabras CVC y reconocen palabras que riman. ¡Fue una semana divertida!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
