Flowers/Las flores

This week we continued learning about flowers. At pretend play, the children pretended to plant flowers, used garden tools and design their flower arraignments. At art table, the children use Q-tips to paint, made flower paper plates and used toilet paper to make flowers. At sensory table, the children played with letters and garden tools. They found letters and produce their sound. At literacy table, the children used letter stickers to make flowers. The children matched upper case to lower case. At manipulative table, the children played with Legos, count nuts 1:1 correspondence, measured flowers with snap cubes and played with floor puzzles. This week, we said Goodbye to Stella and Ms. Sherri until next year. The children made a card and Stella took pictures with each child.  We can’t believe that this was our last study for this year. The children learned so much and we are so proud. The next 3 weeks of school, we will help the students to transition to kindergarten to learn about it and how our classroom is similar and different to kindergarten. We will help them to deal with their emotions because it is a big transition, but we are sure that will enjoy kindergarten. Also, we will help our returning students to talk about next year and maybe the move to another class and new teachers or prepare them to say bye to their friends. It has been a great year! We want to thank all the parents for the support during this year! We are wishing well to our students and remember you will always be part of our school family! #Applesforever

 

Esta semana seguimos aprendiendo sobre las flores. En el juego de simulación, los niños simularon plantar flores, usaron herramientas de jardín y diseñaron sus arreglos florales. En la mesa de arte, los niños usaron hisopos para pintar, hicieron platos de papel con flores y usaron papel higiénico para hacer flores. En la mesa sensorial, los niños jugaron con letras y herramientas de jardinería. Encontraron letras y produjeron su sonido. En la mesa de alfabetización, los niños usaron calcomanías con letras para hacer flores. Los niños emparejaron mayúsculas con minúsculas. En la mesa de manipulación, los niños jugaron con Legos, contaron nueces en correspondencia 1:1, midieron flores con cubos de presión y jugaron con rompecabezas de piso. Esta semana, nos despedimos de Stella y la Sra. Sherri hasta el próximo año. Los niños hicieron una tarjeta y Stella se tomó fotos con cada niño. No podemos creer que este haya sido nuestro último estudio de este año. Los niños aprendieron mucho y estamos muy orgullosos. Las próximas 3 semanas de clases, ayudaremos a los estudiantes a hacer la transición al jardín de infantes para aprender sobre esto y cómo nuestro salón de clases es similar y diferente al jardín de infantes. Los ayudaremos a lidiar con sus emociones porque es una gran transición, pero estamos seguros de que disfrutarán del jardín de infantes. Además, ayudaremos a nuestros estudiantes que regresan a hablar sobre el próximo año y tal vez el cambio a otra clase y nuevos maestros o prepararlos para despedirse de sus amigos. ¡Ha sido un gran año! ¡Queremos agradecer a todos los padres por el apoyo durante este año! ¡Les deseamos lo mejor a nuestros estudiantes y recuerden que siempre serán parte de nuestra familia escolar! #manzanasparasiempre

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
