Flowers/Las flores

This week was a short week, but very busy! We continued learning about flowers/plants. We learned that it takes between 7 to 10 days in the right condition to seed to germinate. The children discussed the changes that they noticed in their beans. At dramatic play, the children continued pretending to be a florist. They are making flower arraignments, counting flowers and sorting them. Also, they are playing with money and cash register machine. At sensory, the children continued to play with flowers, gardening tools and soil. At art table, the children painted with flowers and play with playdough and flowers. At blocks, the children are building together, persist on task, sharing materials and taking turns. At science, the children learned about the parts of the flower. They observed and explored the different parts of the flower. We ended our week, with our annual field trip to Marbles Museum. The children enjoyed exploring the different areas with their parents. It was so much fun!

 

 Esta semana fue una semana corta, pero muy ocupada! Seguimos aprendiendo sobre flores/plantas. Aprendimos que se necesitan entre 7 a 10 días en condiciones adecuadas para que la semilla germine. Los niños discutieron los cambios que notaron en sus frijoles. En el juego dramático, los niños continuaron fingiendo ser floristas. Están haciendo comparecencias de flores, contando flores y clasificándolas. Además, están jugando con dinero y una máquina registradora. En sensorial, los niños continuaron jugando con flores, herramientas de jardinería y tierra. En la mesa de arte, los niños pintaron con flores y jugaron con plastilina y flores. En los bloques, los niños construyen juntos, persisten en la tarea, comparten materiales y se turnan. En ciencias, los niños aprendieron sobre las partes de la flor. Observaron y exploraron las diferentes partes de la flor. Terminamos nuestra semana con nuestra excursión anual al Museo de Mármoles. Los niños disfrutaron explorando las diferentes áreas con sus padres. ¡Fue muy divertido!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
