Flowers/Las flores

This week, we continued learning about flowers.  At science table, the children planted their bean into a cup, and they decided to take home to put them in their garden or a pot. We explored sunflowers with magnifying glasses and the children drew pictures of their observation. At art table, the children painted sunflowers and flowers. At manipulative, the children created AAB and AB patterns with stickers, played with small blocks and used pattern blocks to make flowers. At literacy, we continued playing with letters, sounds and alliterations. At dramatic play, the children pretended to order flowers. This activity helped the children to recognize numbers and colors. At blocks, the children continued adding flowers to their structures. This week was our last language group with Ms. Robin. The children retold stories or created their own story. It was amazing to see all the students retelling with details a story. During outside, we tried to fly a kite. The children ran around and tried to make it fly. It was great to see the children try to solve the problem and find a solution. We can’t believe it is almost the end of the year! 

 

Esta semana continuamos aprendiendo sobre las flores. En la mesa de ciencias, los niños plantaron su frijol en una taza y decidieron llevarlo a casa para ponerlo en su jardín o en una maceta. Exploramos los girasoles con lupas y los niños hicieron dibujos de su observación. En la mesa de arte, los niños pintaron girasoles y flores. En el manipulativo, los niños crearon patrones AAB y AB con pegatinas, jugaron con bloques pequeños y usaron bloques de patrones para hacer flores. En alfabetización seguimos jugando con las letras, los sonidos y las aliteraciones. En el juego dramático, los niños simularon pedir flores. Esta actividad ayudó a los niños a reconocer números y colores. En los bloques, los niños continuaron agregando flores a sus estructuras. Esta semana fue nuestro último grupo de idiomas con la Sra. Robin. Los niños volvieron a contar historias o crearon su propia historia. Fue increíble ver a todos los estudiantes contar con detalles una historia. Durante el exterior, tratamos de volar una cometa. Los niños corrieron y trataron de hacerlo volar. Fue genial ver a los niños tratar de resolver el problema y encontrar una solución. ¡No podemos creer que sea casi el final del año!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
