Apples/ Las manzanas

This week we continued learning about apples. The children described the inside of an apple and made predictions of how many seeds were inside our apples. We found 4 seeds in our apple. At block center the children use gutters to make ramps to experiment with balls and apples. They tried different slopes. They found that apples and balls can roll but balls roll faster that apples. At dramatic play, they continued pretending to bake apple pies, sorting and picking up apples. At art table, we used scissors to cut tape and apple cut outs. They are working on strengthen their fine motor skills.  At literacy, the children are learning to recognize letters and their sounds. They are matching letters and sorting letters by colors.  At science, the children used the balance to compare weight, used apples to measure their height and draw pictures to make our first classroom book and they used playdough and apples to make a tower. At sensory, the children used thongs to count apples and make apples pies. At manipulatives, the children used connect blox to make structures and used apples to count seeds and make patterns. It was a short week but full of learning!  Soon, you will receive information about our first parent teacher conference.

Esta semana continuamos aprendiendo sobre las manzanas. Los niños describieron el interior de una manzana e hicieron predicciones de cuántas semillas había dentro de nuestras manzanas. Encontramos 4 semillas en nuestra manzana. En el centro de bloques, los niños usan canaletas para hacer rampas y experimentar con pelotas y manzanas. Probaron diferentes pendientes. Descubrieron que las manzanas y las pelotas pueden rodar, pero las pelotas ruedan más rápido que las manzanas. En el juego dramático, continuaron fingiendo hornear pasteles de manzana, clasificando y recogiendo manzanas. En la mesa de arte, usamos tijeras para cortar cinta adhesiva y recortes de manzanas. Están trabajando para fortalecer sus habilidades motoras finas. En la alfabetización, los niños aprenden a reconocer las letras y sus sonidos. Están relacionando letras y clasificando letras por colores. En ciencias, los niños usaron la balanza para comparar el peso, usaron manzanas para medir su altura y hicieron dibujos para hacer nuestro primer libro de clase y usaron plastilina y manzanas para hacer una torre. En el nivel sensorial, los niños usaron tangas para contar manzanas y hacer pasteles de manzana. En los objetos manipulables, los niños usaron Connect Blox para hacer estructuras y usaron manzanas para contar semillas y hacer patrones. ¡Fue una semana corta pero llena de aprendizaje! Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
