How to maintain a friendship/ Como mantener una amistad

This week we learned how to maintain a friend by sharing, being kind and taking turns. The children role played the right way to ask for a turn and share toys. They also identified expected and unexpected behaviors during play. We will continue working on these skills during the school year. The last few weeks, we established the importance of school family, we learned ritual and routines, our schedule to help children to fill safe and how to make and maintain friends. The children continued exploring the different centers and materials and learning to play together. At art center, the children created colorful art with markers and water, decorated a person, made their own rainbow fish and played with playdoh.  At blocks, we added cardboard blocks, the children created amazing structures. At math, the children sorted by size and shape, built with connect blox, played with numbers and played with Legos. At literacy, the children matched letters and identified their name or sound. At science, the children used different materials and used it in very creative ways.  The children are learning the different jobs in our school family! Next week, it will be our first study. It will be on Apples, Fall and Pumpkins. 

 

Esta semana aprendimos cómo mantener a un amigo compartiendo, siendo amable y turnándose. El rol de los niños cumplió con la forma correcta de pedir turno y compartir juguetes. También identificaron comportamientos esperados e inesperados durante el juego. Continuaremos trabajando en estas habilidades durante el año escolar. Las últimas semanas, establecimos la importancia de la familia en la escuela, aprendimos rituales y rutinas, nuestro horario para ayudar a los niños a estar seguros y cómo hacer y mantener amigos. Los niños continuaron explorando los diferentes centros y materiales y aprendiendo a jugar juntos. En el centro de arte, los niños crearon arte colorido con marcadores y agua, decoraron a una persona, hicieron su propio pez arcoíris y jugaron con plastilina. A los bloques les agregamos bloques de cartón, los niños crearon estructuras asombrosas. En matemáticas, los niños clasificaron por tamaño y forma, construyeron con Connect Blox, jugaron con números y jugaron con Legos. En la alfabetización, los niños relacionaron letras e identificaron su nombre o sonido. En ciencias, los niños usaron diferentes materiales y los usaron de maneras muy creativas. ¡Los niños están aprendiendo los diferentes trabajos en nuestra familia escolar! La próxima semana será nuestro primer estudio. Será sobre manzanas, otoño y calabazas.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
