Pumpkins/La calabazas

This week was a busy week! We continued learning about pumpkins. The children learned about the cycle of a pumpkin and how people cook it in cookies, bread, soup and pies. At art table, the children decorated their own bag for our fall festival, ripped paper to make a pumpkin and played with playdough. At dramatic play, the children continued picking apples and pumpkins, raking leaves and baking pies. At sensory table, the children continued hammering golf tees into a pumpkin. At blocks, the children used blocks to create amazing structures. At manipulative table, the children played with legos, created patterns and played matching games. At science table, the children played with magnet shapes. Also, this week the children celebrated our fall festival and they went around the school asking for candy. It was great to see the parents celebrating with us! We celebrated our learning about fall, apples and pumpkins with our annual field trip to the Willow Oak farm. The children had the opportunity to pick pumpkins, play in the park, pet and feed the animals and eat delicious ice cream.  The children decided that our next study will be on transportation!

I will like to thank the parents who took the time to sit and discuss their child’s progress and create new goals for the next quarter.

 

¡Esta semana fue una semana ocupada! Seguimos aprendiendo sobre las calabazas. Los niños aprendieron sobre el ciclo de la calabaza y cómo la gente la cocina en galletas, pan, sopa y pasteles. En la mesa de arte, los niños decoraron su propia bolsa para nuestro festival de otoño, rasgaron papel para hacer una calabaza y jugaron con plastilina. En el juego dramático, los niños continuaron recogiendo manzanas y calabazas, rastrillando hojas y horneando pasteles. En la mesa sensorial, los niños continuaron martillando tees de golf para convertirlos en una calabaza. En los bloques, los niños usaron bloques para crear estructuras asombrosas. En la mesa manipulativa, los niños jugaron con legos, crearon patrones y jugaron juegos de combinación. En la mesa de ciencias, los niños jugaron con formas magnéticas. Además, esta semana los niños celebraron nuestro festival de otoño y recorrieron la escuela pidiendo dulces. ¡Fue genial ver a los padres celebrar con nosotros! Celebramos nuestro aprendizaje sobre el otoño, las manzanas y las calabazas con nuestra excursión anual a la granja Willow Oak. Los niños tuvieron la oportunidad de recoger calabazas, jugar en el parque, acariciar y alimentar a los animales y comer un delicioso helado. ¡Los niños decidieron que nuestro próximo estudio será sobre el transporte!

Me gustaría agradecer a los padres que se tomaron el tiempo para sentarse y discutir el progreso de sus hijos y crear nuevas metas para el próximo trimestre.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
