This week was short but full of learning! We started our study on transportation. We created a KWL chart. The children practiced formulating questions with I wonder. The children created questions such as: Why some cars are loud? Or why cars need engines? Or how fast can a train go? We transformed our dramatic play in an auto shop. The children pretended to be a mechanic and fix our car. At block center, the children used blocks to make amazing structures and roads for the cars. At sensory table, the children used toothbrushes to wash cars and trucks. At art table, the children used markers to draw pictures of their family cars, made a letter train with the letters in their name and played with playdough and transportation cookie cutters. At manipulative table, the children made patterns and sorted cars and trains and played with legos. At literacy, the children used the scissors to cut lines and paste it in their journal. During social group, we learned how to ask for help to adults and peers.

 

¡Esta semana fue corta pero llena de aprendizaje! Comenzamos nuestro estudio sobre transporte. Creamos un gráfico KWL. Los niños practicaron formulando preguntas con Me pregunto. Los niños crearon preguntas como: ¿Por qué algunos autos hacen ruido? ¿O por qué los coches necesitan motores? ¿O a qué velocidad puede ir un tren? Transformamos nuestra obra dramática en un taller de automóviles. Los niños se hicieron pasar por mecánicos y arreglaron nuestro coche. En el centro de bloques, los niños usaron bloques para hacer estructuras y caminos increíbles para los autos. En la mesa sensorial, los niños utilizaron cepillos de dientes para lavar coches y camiones. En la mesa de arte, los niños usaron marcadores para hacer dibujos de los autos de su familia, hicieron un tren de letras con las letras de su nombre y jugaron con plastilina y cortadores de galletas de transporte. En la mesa de manipulación, los niños hicieron patrones, clasificaron coches y trenes y jugaron con legos. En alfabetización, los niños usaron las tijeras para cortar líneas y pegarlas en su diario. Durante el grupo social, aprendimos cómo pedir ayuda a adultos y compañeros.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
