This week was a busy week! We learned why we need roads and why they have lines. Also, we learned that wheels have patterns and lines that help them to get a grip on the road, just like a tennis shoe. At art center, the children painted with cars, used shapes to make cars and trains, painted with watercolors and played with playdough. At math, the children used snap cubes to measure pictures of cars and make patterns with counters. At science, the children experimented with power magnet cars and a small ramp and cars and they measured the distance with blocks. At blocks, the children used blocks to build amazing roads and structures. At literacy, the children practiced writing circles. At dramatic play, the children continued to pretend to be a mechanic and fix our taxi. Our class went outside and explored Ms. Li’s car tires, the inside of the car and drew pictures of observation. The children noticed the wheels have numbers and letters. It was a fun activity!

 

¡Esta semana fue una semana ocupada! Aprendimos por qué necesitamos carreteras y por qué tienen líneas. Además, aprendimos que las ruedas tienen patrones y líneas que les ayudan a agarrarse a la carretera, como una zapatilla de tenis. En el centro de arte, los niños pintaron con autos, usaron formas para hacer autos y trenes, pintaron con acuarelas y jugaron con plastilina. En matemáticas, los niños usaron cubos para medir imágenes de autos y hacer patrones con fichas. En ciencias, los niños experimentaron con carros magnéticos y una pequeña rampa y carros y midieron la distancia con bloques. En los bloques, los niños usaron bloques para construir caminos y estructuras increíbles. Durante la alfabetización, los niños practicaron la escritura en círculos. En el juego dramático, los niños continuaron haciéndose pasar por mecánicos y arreglando nuestro taxi. Nuestra clase salió y exploró los neumáticos del auto de la Sra. Li, el interior del auto e hizo dibujos de observación. Los niños notaron que las ruedas tienen números y letras. ¡Fue una actividad divertida!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
