Hibernation /Hibernación

This week, we continued learning about hibernation. Bears are the animals most known for hibernating, but they aren't the only ones. Turtles, snakes, wood frogs, and groundhogs are other animals that engage in some form of hibernation. Animals hibernate to survive winter months, mostly to keep warm and conserve energy during periods of water and food shortest. At art table, the children cut, and decorated mitten cut outs, made a turtle with paper plates and construction paper and made a hedgehog out of clay and pieces of wood. At the sensory table, the children practiced their fine motor by using hole punchers. At blocks, the children made caves for the bears and drew pictures of their structure. At science, the children use non-standard (links) to measure different parts of a teddy bear and they tested gummy bears and they made a prediction to what would happen to the gummies when they submerged in water and water with salt. At literacy, the children are working on recognizing alliterations. The children are working on their fine motor by writing words. Also, the children made beautiful valentine cards for legislators that support Early childhood programs. 

 

Esta semana continuamos aprendiendo sobre la hibernación. Los osos son los animales más conocidos por hibernar, pero no son los únicos. Las tortugas, las serpientes, las ranas de bosque y las marmotas son otros animales que participan en algún tipo de hibernación. Los animales hibernan para sobrevivir los meses de invierno, principalmente para mantenerse calientes y conservar energía durante los períodos más cortos de agua y alimentos. En la mesa de arte, los niños cortaron y decoraron recortes de manoplas, hicieron una tortuga con platos de papel y cartulina y un erizo con arcilla y trozos de madera. En la mesa sensorial, los niños practicaron su motricidad fina utilizando perforadoras. En los bloques, los niños hicieron cuevas para los osos y dibujaron su estructura. En ciencias, los niños usaron no estándar (enlaces) para medir diferentes partes de un osito de peluche y probaron ositos de goma e hicieron una predicción de lo que les pasaría a las gomitas cuando se sumergieran en agua y agua con sal. En alfabetización, los niños están trabajando en el reconocimiento de aliteraciones. Los niños trabajan su motricidad fina escribiendo palabras. Además, los niños elaboraron hermosas tarjetas de San Valentín para los legisladores que apoyan los programas de Primera Infancia.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
