Happy New year! Our first 3 days together this week we learned about snow. We learned that snow is a form of precipitation and that it needs certain conditions such as temperature (-32 grade). We learned about that Snowflake Bentley was the first one that took a picture of a snowflake by connecting a microscope to a camera. At the sensory table, we added some snow and measuring cups. At dramatic play, we transformed it into a skating rink. The children pretended to shovel snow and dress up with some winter clothes. The children used oil pastel and white paint to create a snowy scenery and painted their representation of a snowflake. At manipulative, they used pattern blocks to make snowflakes. At block center, the children used white blocks to create different winter structures. It was short week, but it was full of fun and learning! I will like to recommend this podcast “The Baffling Behavior” with Robyn Gobbel. Great information!

 

¡Feliz año nuevo! Nuestros primeros 3 días juntos esta semana aprendimos sobre la nieve. Aprendimos que la nieve es una forma de precipitación y que necesita ciertas condiciones como la temperatura (-32 grados). Nos enteramos de que Snowflake Bentley fue el primero en tomar una fotografía de un copo de nieve conectando un microscopio a una cámara. En la mesa sensorial agregamos un poco de nieve y tazas medidoras. En el juego dramático, lo transformamos en una pista de patinaje. Los niños fingieron palear nieve y vestirse con ropa de invierno. Los niños usaron pastel al óleo y pintura blanca para crear un paisaje nevado y pintaron su representación de un copo de nieve. En la manipulación, utilizaron bloques de patrones para hacer copos de nieve. En el centro de bloques, los niños usaron bloques blancos para crear diferentes estructuras invernales. ¡Fue una semana corta, pero llena de diversión y aprendizaje! Me gustaría recomendar este podcast “The Baffling Behavior” con Robyn Gobbel. ¡Excelente información!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
