This week we learned that some animals adapt to the winter. These animals develop special adaptations to their bodies and behaviors to survive. Some mammals will grow a thicker, warmer winter coat. At art table, the children drew a mouse, cut a cutout of a rabbit, made an igloo and follow directions to draw a penguin and used watercolors to paint it. At sensory center, the children used plastic cubes and shaving cream to build. At dramatic center, the children pretended to live in an igloo and ice fishing letters. At block center, the children used blocks to build igloos and structures and added penguins. At literacy, the children played with letters and played Zingo. The children are learning to take turns and follow the rules of the game. At science, the children used mittens to measure their height. At math, the children played with snap cubes, number pegs and pattern blocks. The children decided that our next study will be pets.

 

Esta semana aprendimos que algunos animales se adaptan al invierno. Estos animales desarrollan adaptaciones especiales en sus cuerpos y comportamientos para sobrevivir. A algunos mamíferos les crecerá un pelaje de invierno más grueso y cálido. En la mesa de arte, los niños dibujaron un ratón, cortaron un conejo, hicieron un iglú y siguieron instrucciones para dibujar un pingüino y usaron acuarelas para pintarlo. En el centro sensorial, los niños usaron cubos de plástico y crema de afeitar para construir. En el centro dramático, los niños fingieron vivir en un iglú y pescar en el hielo. En el centro de bloques, los niños usaron bloques para construir iglús y estructuras y agregaron pingüinos. En la alfabetización, los niños jugaban con letras y jugaban al zingo. Los niños están aprendiendo a turnarse y seguir las reglas del juego. En ciencias, los niños usaban guantes para medir su altura. En matemáticas, los niños jugaron con cubos, clavijas numéricas y bloques de patrones. Los niños decidieron que nuestro próximo estudio serían las mascotas.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
