Pets/Las mascotas

This week we discussed what kind of animals can be a pet. We sorted animals that are rarely, sometimes and usually a pet.  At dramatic play, the children continue pretending to be a groomer and take care of their pet by giving them a bath, clip their nails and feed them. At sensory table, the children played con ducks, nest sand and letters. At table games, the children worked on putting puzzles together, playing with Legos and estimating how many bones are in a jar and playing with metal boxes by creating structures by following directions. At science, we had a special visitor, Ms. Laila’s bearded gold lizard. He is name Leo. The children learned about why Leo needs a lamp, why kind of food he likes, how long he is, and used magnifying glasses to look at his skin. It was very fun! Also, the children sorted by color, dogs and cats. At art table, the children painted with feathers and Q-tips. Also, they decorated their valentine bag. At blocks, the children used blocks to create a house for different animals. At literacy, the children played with letters by recognizing sound and alliterations. Also, this week we celebrated Valentine’s day. The children made a car for their favorite person, shared treats with their friends and we had special activities such as: stacking hearts, cutting tape to make a heart and sorting letters. We also celebrated our 100th day of learning and the children dressed up to celebrate. It was so much fun! 

 

Esta semana hablamos de qué tipo de animales pueden ser mascotas. Clasificamos animales que rara vez, a veces y generalmente son una mascota. En el juego dramático, los niños continúan haciéndose pasar por peluqueros y cuidan a su mascota bañándola, cortándole las uñas y dándole de comer. En la mesa sensorial, los niños jugaron con patos, nidos de arena y letras. En los juegos de mesa, los niños trabajaron armando rompecabezas, jugando con Legos y estimando cuántos huesos hay en un frasco y jugando con cajas de metal creando estructuras siguiendo instrucciones. En ciencias, tuvimos un visitante especial, el lagarto dorado barbudo de la Srta. Laila. Se llama Leo. Los niños aprendieron por qué Leo necesita una lámpara, qué tipo de comida le gusta, cuánto mide y usaron lupas para observar su piel. ¡Fue muy divertido! Además, los niños ordenaron por color, perros y gatos. En la mesa de arte, los niños pintaron con plumas y hisopos. Además, decoraron su bolso de San Valentín. En los bloques, los niños usaron bloques para crear una casa para diferentes animales. En la alfabetización, los niños jugaron con letras reconociendo sonidos y aliteraciones. Además, esta semana celebramos el día de San Valentín. Los niños hicieron un auto para su persona favorita, compartieron golosinas con sus amigos y tuvimos actividades especiales como: apilar corazones, cortar cinta adhesiva para hacer un corazón y clasificar letras. También celebramos nuestro día número 100 de aprendizaje y los niños se disfrazaron para celebrar. ¡Fue muy divertido!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
