Pets/Las mascotas

This week was short but full of fun! The children learned about enclosure, cage and aquarium. The children learned that some pets need cages or enclosures to keep them safe. At blocks, the children created amazing structures. At dramatic center, the children continued pretending to be a groomer and take care of pets by giving them a bath, clip nails and brush them. At manipulative center, the children played with shapes, puzzles, sort by size and unifix cubes. At literacy, the children recognized sounds and spelled CVC words. At science, the children played with magnets and follow fish direction patterns. At sensory center, the children played with sand and letters. At art table, the children made beautiful aquariums and cages for their birds. It was a busy three days!  

 

¡Esta semana fue corta pero llena de diversión! Los niños aprendieron sobre recintos, jaulas y acuarios. Los niños aprendieron que algunas mascotas necesitan jaulas o recintos para mantenerlas seguras. En los bloques, los niños crearon estructuras asombrosas. En el centro dramático, los niños continuaron fingiendo ser peluqueros y cuidando a las mascotas bañándolas, cortándoles las uñas y cepillándolas. En el centro de manipulación, los niños jugaron con formas, rompecabezas, ordenaron por tamaño y cubos unifix. En la alfabetización, los niños reconocieron sonidos y deletrearon palabras CVC. En ciencias, los niños jugaron con imanes y siguieron patrones de dirección de peces. En el centro sensorial, los niños jugaron con arena y letras. En la mesa de arte, los niños hicieron hermosos acuarios y jaulas para sus pájaros. ¡Fueron tres días muy ocupados!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
