Pets/Mascotas

This week we are beginning our study on pets. We started by creating KWL chart. We wrote what they know about pets and what they what to research or investigate.  At dramatic play we transformed our dramatic play into a groomer/pet store. The children pretended to give a bath, blow dry and clip pets nails. At blocks, the children added pets to their structures. At sensory, the children played with water and letters. At art center, the children drew their favorite pet, drew a fish, and used geometric shapes to make a mouse and used clay and feathers to make a bird. It was fun! The children were very creative with their art. At literacy, we are working on recognizing alliteration, beginning sounds and spelling pet words. At math, we used pattern blocks to make some pets, used unifix cubes to measure and make patterns. At science, the children sorted pets by color and sorted by categories. We finalized our week by going on our annual field trip to Marbles Museum. It was fun seeing the children exploring different areas and engaging in play with their parents. 

 

Esta semana comenzamos nuestro estudio sobre las mascotas. Comenzamos creando un gráfico KWL. Escribimos lo que saben sobre las mascotas y qué investigar o investigar. En Drama Play transformamos nuestro juego dramático en una peluquería/tienda de mascotas. Los niños fingieron bañar, secar con secador y cortar las uñas de sus mascotas. En los bloques, los niños agregaron mascotas a sus estructuras. En el sensorial, los niños jugaron con agua y letras. En el centro de arte, los niños dibujaron su mascota favorita, dibujaron un pez, usaron formas geométricas para hacer un ratón y usaron arcilla y plumas para hacer un pájaro. ¡Fue divertido! Los niños fueron muy creativos con su arte. En alfabetización, estamos trabajando en reconocer aliteraciones, sonidos iniciales y deletrear palabras favoritas. En matemáticas, usamos bloques de patrones para hacer algunas mascotas, usamos cubos unifix para medir y hacer patrones. En ciencias, los niños clasificaron las mascotas por color y por categorías. Finalizamos nuestra semana realizando nuestra excursión anual al Museo Marbles. Fue divertido ver a los niños explorar diferentes áreas y jugar con sus padres.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
