Apples/ Manzanas

This week we started our study on Apples. We discussed the cycle of an apple, described the inside and outside of an apple and we made predictions of how many seeds an apple will have.  At dramatic play, the children pretended to pick apples and make apple pies. The children sorted and counted apples 1:1 correspondence. At sensory center, we played with trays, spoons, water and pretend apples (ball). The children used spoons to move apples to our trays. They counted them and sorted by colors. At art table, the children observed apples and painted their representation, stamped with apples and practice their fine motors by crumbling tissue paper. At manipulative table, the children follow AB pattern and counted 1:1 correspondence unifix cubes to make fall shapes. At science, the children sorted apples by color, size, created and follow patterns. Also, the children tasted green, red and yellow apples and created a graph about their favorite and they used cutout apples to measure their height. At literacy, the children played with letters, and we began working on specific letters. We are learning the shapes, sound and alliterations. Also, the children are learning to write uppercase by using the handwriting without tears. At blocks, we added some cut out apples and the children added to their structures. It was a fun week! We want to thank all the parents that signed up to donate pumpkins for our next study.

 

Esta semana comenzamos nuestro estudio sobre las manzanas. Discutimos el ciclo de una manzana, describimos el interior y el exterior de una manzana e hicimos predicciones de cuántas semillas tendrá una manzana.  En el juego dramático, los niños hacían como si recogieran manzanas y hicieran pasteles de manzana. Los niños clasificaron y contaron manzanas en correspondencia 1:1. En el centro sensorial jugamos con bandejas, cucharas, agua y manzanas de juguete (pelota). Los niños usaron cucharas para trasladar las manzanas a nuestras bandejas. Los contaron y ordenaron por colores. En la mesa de arte, los niños observaron manzanas y pintaron su representación, estamparon manzanas y practicaron su motricidad fina desmoronando papel de seda. En la mesa manipulativa, los niños siguieron el patrón AB y contaron cubos unifix de correspondencia 1:1 para formar formas de caída. En ciencias, los niños clasificaron manzanas por color, tamaño, crearon y siguieron patrones. Además, los niños probaron manzanas verdes, rojas y amarillas, crearon un gráfico sobre su favorito y usaron manzanas recortadas para medir su altura. En alfabetización, los niños jugaron con letras y comenzamos a trabajar en letras específicas. Estamos aprendiendo las formas, el sonido y las aliteraciones. Además, los niños están aprendiendo a escribir en mayúsculas utilizando una letra sin lágrimas. En los bloques agregamos algunas manzanas recortadas y los niños agregaron a sus estructuras. ¡Fue una semana divertida! Queremos agradecer a todos los padres que se inscribieron para donar calabazas para nuestro próximo estudio.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
