Apples/Manzanas

This week we continued learning about apples. We made predictions about an apple’s weight, if it sinks or floats and why apples are different colors. Also, we found out some apples are pink. At dramatic play, the children continue pretending to pick up and bake delicious apple pies. At blocks, the children built with different blocks and experimented with ramps. They find out which apples roll faster than others. It will depend on the size of the apple. At sensory table, the children used tongs to pick apples and make apple pies. At art table, the children painted with a mix of cinnamon and paint, used scissors to cut lines and used glue to put their name together and play with play dough. At writing table, the children are practicing writing their name and some words. Also, they are matching letters to make their apple alphabet tree. At manipulative, we are working on 1:1 correspondence and recognizing numbers and sorting objects by size. At literacy, the children are sorting letters by colors. We encourage children to recognize letters and produce the sounds. We finished our week by going to Page Farm. The children played at the playground, did a hayride, played in corn and went through the corn maze and learned about some animals and pick pumpkins! It was a great time to learn and spend with the families!  

 

Esta semana continuamos aprendiendo sobre las manzanas. Hicimos predicciones sobre el peso de una manzana, si se hunde o flota y por qué las manzanas son de diferentes colores. Además, descubrimos que algunas manzanas son rosadas. En el juego dramático, los niños siguen fingiendo que recogen y hornean deliciosas tartas de manzana. En los bloques, los niños construyeron con diferentes bloques y experimentaron con rampas. Descubren qué manzanas ruedan más rápido que otras. Dependerá del tamaño de la manzana. En la mesa sensorial, los niños usaron pinzas para recoger manzanas y hacer tartas de manzana. En la mesa de arte, los niños pintaron con una mezcla de canela y pintura, usaron tijeras para cortar líneas y usaron pegamento para armar sus nombres y jugaron con plastilina. En el escritorio, los niños practican escribir su nombre y algunas palabras. Además, están uniendo letras para hacer su árbol del alfabeto de manzanas. En manipulative, estamos trabajando en la correspondencia 1:1 y reconociendo números y clasificando objetos por tamaño. En la alfabetización, los niños clasifican letras por colores. Animamos a los niños a reconocer letras y producir los sonidos. Terminamos nuestra semana yendo a Page Farm. Los niños jugaron en el patio de recreo, dieron un paseo en carruaje, jugaron con maíz, recorrieron el laberinto de maíz, aprendieron sobre algunos animales y recogieron calabazas. ¡Fue un gran momento para aprender y pasar con las familias!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
