This week we introduce a way to help children to track time. We introduce a visual schedule. The children learn how to read it and it helped them to create a sense of security and independence. A picture schedule help children to know what is going to happen after and before each activity.  Also, we introduce our helping hands. The children have a weekly job. It is important for young children to fill part of the classroom community and being involve in the care of our classroom and rituals. At art center, the children experimented with water and markers. They created new colors. They used geometric shapes to make amazing art and painted with white and blue paint on aluminum foil. The children made amazing cards to send to western NC.  At manipulative, we introduced the concept of patterns. The children used geometric shapes and stickers to make AB patterns. Also, the children played with puzzles, played with small colored blocks, sort by size, count 1:1 correspondence and recognize numbers. At sensory table, the children played with measuring cups, beads and plastic bottles. The children counted how many cups they needed to fill the bottle. Some of the children counted up to 24 scoops. At literacy, the children played with letters, puzzles and letter robots and drew pictures of Mat man or lines. At blocks, the children continued experimenting with blocks and adding cars and animals. At dramatic play, the children continued taking turns, sharing materials and playing together. At science area, the children learned about heavy and light objects. They used the balance to learn what is heavy or light than a rock and they drew their observation/data and drew a picture of our experiment growing a rainbow. Next week, we will learn how to make friends and being part of a group. 

 

Esta semana presentamos una forma de ayudar a los niños a realizar un seguimiento del tiempo. Introducimos un horario visual. Los niños aprenden a leerlo y les ayuda a crear una sensación de seguridad e independencia. Un horario con imágenes ayuda a los niños a saber qué sucederá después y antes de cada actividad.  Además, presentamos nuestras manos amigas. Los niños tienen un trabajo semanal. Es importante que los niños pequeños formen parte de la comunidad del aula y se involucren en el cuidado de nuestra aula y de nuestros rituales. En el centro de arte, los niños experimentaron con agua y marcadores. Crearon nuevos colores. Usaron formas geométricas para hacer un arte asombroso y pintaron con pintura blanca y azul sobre papel de aluminio. Los niños hicieron tarjetas increíbles para enviar al oeste de Carolina del Norte.  En manipulativo, introdujimos el concepto de patrones. Los niños usaron formas geométricas y pegatinas para hacer patrones AB. Además, los niños jugaron con rompecabezas, jugaron con pequeños bloques de colores, ordenaron por tamaño, contaron correspondencia 1:1 y reconocieron números. En la mesa sensorial los niños jugaron con tazas medidoras, cuentas y botellas de plástico. Los niños contaron cuántos vasos necesitaban para llenar el biberón. Algunos de los niños contaron hasta 24 cucharadas. En la alfabetización, los niños jugaron con letras, rompecabezas y robots de letras y dibujaron al hombre Mat o líneas. En los bloques, los niños continuaron experimentando con bloques y agregando autos y animales. En el juego dramático, los niños continuaron turnándose, compartiendo materiales y jugando juntos. En el área de ciencias, los niños aprendieron sobre objetos pesados ​​y livianos. Usaron la balanza para aprender qué es más pesado o liviano que una roca y dibujaron sus observaciones/datos y dibujaron un dibujo de nuestro experimento haciendo crecer un arco iris. La próxima semana aprenderemos cómo hacer amigos y ser parte de un grupo.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
