How to maintain a friendship/ Como mantener una Amistad

This week, we learned the importance of being kind to our friends and how to request a turn and share materials. We learned that taking toys or hitting friends is not a way to make friends. We need to use our words to communicate with our friends (ex. Can you share with me? Or can I play please?). The last past 5 weeks we learned about how our school family works together, we keep each other safe and how we track our time and how we maintain friends by sharing, taking turns and by using kind words. At art center, the children drew a picture of their best friend, water painted to discover their name, used scissors and decorated their own rainbow fish and played with playdough. At science, the children experimented with baking soda and vinegar. When these two elements mix, it makes a chemical reaction (bubbles) and they also made AB patterns with their fingerprints. At writing table, the children made a book about what they like to do with their friends. This is our first classroom book! And the children explained their drawings to their friends! At manipulative, the children played with Legos, numbers and sorting shapes. At sensory table the children played with sponges and funnels. At literacy, the children played with letters and engaged in fine motor journals by using stickers, scissors and gluing. At blocks, the children kept working on using different blocks and adding animals and cars to their structures. Our first study/ investigation will be on Apples, pumpkins and Fall. 

 

Esta semana aprendimos la importancia de ser amables con nuestros amigos y cómo pedir turno y compartir materiales. Aprendimos que quitar juguetes o golpear a los amigos no es una forma de hacer amigos. Necesitamos usar nuestras palabras para comunicarnos con nuestros amigos (por ejemplo, ¿puedes compartir conmigo? ¿puedo jugar, por favor?). Las últimas 5 semanas aprendimos cómo nuestra familia escolar trabaja junta, nos mantenemos seguros unos a otros y cómo llevamos un registro de nuestro tiempo y cómo mantenemos a los amigos compartiendo, turnándonos y usando palabras amables. En el centro de arte, los niños hicieron un dibujo de su mejor amigo, pintaron con agua para descubrir su nombre, usaron tijeras, decoraron su propio pez arcoíris y jugaron con plastilina. En ciencias, los niños experimentaron con bicarbonato de sodio y vinagre. Cuando estos dos elementos se mezclan, se produce una reacción química (burbujas) y también formaron patrones AB con sus huellas dactilares. En la mesa de escritura, los niños hicieron un libro sobre lo que les gusta hacer con sus amigos. ¡Éste es nuestro primer libro de clase! ¡Y los niños explicaron sus dibujos a sus amigos! En los manipulativos, los niños jugaron con Legos, números y clasificando formas. En la mesa sensorial los niños jugaron con esponjas y embudos. En la alfabetización, los niños jugaron con letras y realizaron diarios de motricidad fina utilizando pegatinas, tijeras y pegamento. En los bloques, los niños siguieron trabajando usando diferentes bloques y agregando animales y autos a sus estructuras. Nuestro primer estudio/investigación será sobre manzanas, calabazas y otoño.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
