Human body/ El cuerpo humano

This week, we learned about our heart and spine. We learned that our heart helps to pump blood to all our body and that we need to keep a healthy diet to keep it strong and healthy. Also, we learned that spine has 33 bones and allows our body to move. At science, the children learned how to use a stethoscope, and they listened to the hearts of their friends before and after exercising. The children played with a heart model to see how the blood pumps. The children used pasta and gummies to create a model of the spine. At dramatic play, the children continued pretending to be a nurse, doctor and patients. At manipulative table, we continued learning about non-standard measuring. The children trace their hand and measure with cubes and drew a picture and measured it. At art table, the children made representation of an X -ray, painted vegetables and fruit with watercolors and used curves and lines to make mat man. We finished the week by going to the Sassafras all children’s playground. It was a lot of fun! The children decided that our next study will be on flowers. 

Esta semana, aprendimos sobre el corazón y la columna vertebral. Aprendimos que el corazón ayuda a bombear sangre a todo el cuerpo y que necesitamos una dieta saludable para mantenerlo fuerte y sano. También aprendimos que la columna vertebral tiene 33 huesos y permite que nuestro cuerpo se mueva. En ciencias, los niños aprendieron a usar un estetoscopio y escucharon el corazón de sus amigos antes y después de hacer ejercicio. Jugaron con un modelo de corazón para ver cómo bombea la sangre. Usaron pasta y gomitas para crear un modelo de la columna vertebral. En el juego de dramatización, los niños siguieron jugando a ser enfermeras, médicos y pacientes. En la mesa de manipulación, continuamos aprendiendo sobre medidas no estándar. Los niños trazaron su mano y midieron con cubos, dibujaron una imagen y la midieron. En la mesa de arte, los niños hicieron una representación de una radiografía, pintaron verduras y frutas con acuarelas y usaron curvas y líneas para hacer un muñeco de tapete. Terminamos la semana yendo al parque infantil de Sassafras. ¡Fue muy divertido! Los niños decidieron que nuestro próximo estudio será sobre flores.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
