This week we continued learning about the human body. We learned about the skeleton system. We learned the human body has 206 bones and together is our skeleton. Our skeleton keeps us straight. At writing table, the children used band aids to match letters and practice their fine motor by peeling the band aid. At art table, the children made representations of skeletons with Q- tips, put together a face puzzle and played with playdough. At science, the children made fingerprint patterns and learned about how to treat a broken bone by making a splint with craft sticks and ribbons. They stabilized the bone (piece of tree sticks) and they put the bone between the sticks and wrapped it with a ribbon. They practiced their fine motor and problem-solving skills. At manipulative, we count 1:1 correspondence small plastic bone 1 through 10. At dramatic area, the children continued to pretend to be doctors and patients. They learned about measuring height and weight. Also, this week we celebrated the Week of the Young Child by having a delicious snack, making a sun catcher, planting flowers, dancing like a bee, making a bee or beehive and families decorated a bee for a lemon tree. It was such fun this week!


Esta semana continuamos aprendiendo sobre el cuerpo humano. Aprendimos sobre el sistema esquelético. Aprendimos que el cuerpo humano tiene 206 huesos y juntos forman nuestro esqueleto. Nuestro esqueleto nos mantiene erguidos. En la mesa de escritura, los niños usaron curitas para unir letras y practicaron su motricidad fina despegando la curita. En la mesa de arte, los niños hicieron representaciones de esqueletos con hisopos, armaron un rompecabezas de caras y jugaron con plastilina. En ciencias, los niños hicieron patrones de huellas dactilares y aprendieron cómo tratar un hueso roto haciendo una férula con palitos de artesanía y cintas. Estabilizaron el hueso (pedazo de palitos de árbol) y lo colocaron entre los palitos y lo envolvieron con una cinta. Practicaron su motricidad fina y habilidades de resolución de problemas. En el área manipulativa, contamos 1:1 correspondencia hueso pequeño de plástico del 1 al 10. En el área dramática, los niños continuaron fingiendo ser médicos y pacientes. Aprendieron a medir la altura y el peso. Además, esta semana celebramos la Semana del Niño Pequeño con una deliciosa merienda, haciendo un atrapa sol, plantando flores, bailando como abejas, haciendo una abeja o una colmena, y las familias decoraron una abeja para un limonero. ¡Fue una semana divertidísima!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
