Flowers/Las flores

This week we continued our study about flowers. At art center, the children painted with real and artificial flowers. It was interesting to see the different patterns! Also, the children used paper plates and construction paper to create beautiful flowers. At sensory we continued practicing our fine motor skills by using flowers and streamers. The children sort by color and size. At dramatic play we continued to create flower arrangements and sorting flowers. At block center, the children added flowers to their structures. At manipulate center, the children work on puzzles and measuring flowers. At science center, the children use a magnifying glass and microscope to explore flowers. We learned about the parts of the flower. We learned about the stem, the leaves, petals and the center of the flower that process seeds. We finalize the week with our annual field trip to Marble Museum. It was a great opportunity to connect with parents and see the children play together and practice social skills. It was so fun!

Esta semana continuamos nuestro estudio sobre las flores. En el centro de arte, los niños pintaron con flores reales y artificiales. ¡Fue interesante ver los diferentes patrones! Además, los niños usaron platos de papel y papel de construcción para crear hermosas flores. En sensorial continuamos practicando nuestra motricidad fina usando flores y serpentinas. Los niños ordenan por color y tamaño. En el juego dramático continuamos creando arreglos florales y clasificando flores. En el centro de bloques, los niños agregaron flores a sus estructuras. En el centro de manipulación, los niños trabajan en rompecabezas y miden flores. En el centro de ciencias, los niños usan una lupa y un microscopio para explorar las flores. Aprendimos sobre las partes de la flor. Aprendimos sobre el tallo, las hojas, los pétalos y el centro de la flor que procesa las semillas. Finalizamos la semana con nuestra excursión anual al Museo del Mármol. Fue una gran oportunidad para conectarse con los padres y ver a los niños jugar juntos y practicar habilidades sociales. ¡Fue tan divertido!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
