This week we finished our last study of the year. We continued learning about insects. Our caterpillars got inside of their cocoon and hopefully soon we will see butterflies. We read the book “In the Tall, Tall Grass”. The children drew insects that can be found in the grass. The children practice recognizing rhyming words. Also, we learned that ants are very strong, and they can carry up to twenty times their own body weight. The children drew their representation of ants at art table. At dramatic play, the children continued sorting, measuring and exploring plastic insects. At sensory table, the children used tongs to catch spiders. It was fun! At blocks, the children continued creating amazing structures! We can’t believe it is almost time to said goodbye to our amazing students. Next week we will talk about kindergarten!

 

Esta semana terminamos nuestro último estudio del año. Continuamos aprendiendo sobre insectos. Nuestras orugas entraron en su capullo y con suerte pronto veremos mariposas. Leímos el libro “En la hierba alta, alta”. Los niños dibujaron insectos que se pueden encontrar en el pasto. Los niños practican el reconocimiento de palabras que riman. Además, aprendimos que las hormigas son muy fuertes y pueden cargar hasta veinte veces su propio peso corporal. Los niños dibujaron su representación de hormigas en la mesa de arte. En el juego dramático, los niños continuaron clasificando, midiendo y explorando insectos de plástico. En la mesa sensorial, los niños usaron tenazas para atrapar arañas. ¡Fue divertido! ¡En los bloques, los niños continuaron creando estructuras asombrosas! No podemos creer que sea casi la hora de despedirnos de nuestros increíbles estudiantes. ¡La próxima semana hablaremos sobre el Kinder!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
